Keep the original safe
Scan the photograph or take a straight, evenly lit picture. Keep an untouched copy. Avoid flash glare, fingers across the image, and screenshots with app controls. A clear scan gives the model more useful detail than an enlarged thumbnail.
Choose the right task
Choose “General restoration” for a photo with several types of wear, “Repair scratches” for small marks and cracks, “Enhance faces” for blurred portraits, or “Restore faded colors” for an existing color photograph. Restoration uses the original colors as a reference and aims to keep black-and-white photos black and white. To add color, use the separate colorizer.
Restore photo
Choose a restoration goal, then select Restore photo. Use the separate colorizer when you want to add colors to a black-and-white image. Keep the page open while processing. If it times out, check the task status before trying again.
Choosing a file only previews it in your browser. Only when you submit is your photo sent through our server to the configured AI provider. A file may be unsupported or damaged, the provider may be unable to process it, or a request may time out. Check the message shown in the tool before submitting again. A task admitted for processing may count toward the usage allowance even if it later fails. The website does not automatically resubmit it.
Check the whole photograph
Compare the original and edited copy at normal size and close up. Check faces, clothing, fine lines and any writing. Keep the original, and save an edited version only after you are happy with the details.
When a result is ready, compare it with the original and choose Download image. The dimensions shown in the tool describe the working copy, which may be smaller than the uploaded file. Your original file is not overwritten. If this browser can save your results, you can recover your most recent before-and-after photos for up to 24 hours. Download the edited photo to keep it longer.
Photos that may need more care
Small scratches and mild fading are different from large missing areas. Extensive damage and very small faces may need manual editing. If a request has not returned a result, check its status before submitting again. This tool works on digital copies; repairing the physical print is a separate task.
Reading the illustrative comparisons
The comparison images show what each editing goal means. Their scratches, blur, faded colors or grayscale appearance are simulated. They are illustrations, not tested results from this website. When reviewing a restored photo, compare it with your original.
